What Does It Mean to Have Anxiety?
It’s safe to say that almost all of us have experienced anxiety before. After all, anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress, which includes feelings of fear or apprehension about what’s to come.
As far as what triggers anxiety, researchers are not sure of the exact causes. But it’s likely a combination of factors that play a role. These include genetic and environmental factors, as well as brain chemistry. We’ve listed some general symptoms of anxiety below.
General Anxiety Symptoms
- Increased heart rate
- Rapid breathing
- Restlessness
- Trouble concentrating
- Difficulty falling and/or staying asleep
- Having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom
If I Have These Symptoms, Do I Have an Anxiety Disorder?
If the above symptoms come and go, it’s normal; however, if they interfere with your daily life and last longer than six months, you likely have an anxiety disorder.
Anxiety disorders are the most common form of emotional disorder and can affect anyone at any age. If you are uncertain about the state of your mental health, consider talking to a doctor or mental health professional.
